An Augusta woman accused of blackening her 6-year-old’s eye about six months after she left the girl with bruises on her face and arms pleaded guilty Friday.
Michelle N. Johnson, 29, pleaded in Richmond County Superior Court to cruelty to children in the second degree for the Aug. 21, 2014, incident in which she beat her daughter with a belt. The Department of Family and Children Services had an open case on that incident when a second call was received in February 2015 about a black eye, District Attorney Ashley Wright said.
Judge J. David Roper accepted the plea negotiation and sentenced Johnson to four years in prison followed by six years probation. Johnson is to undergo mental health treatment and is not allowed to have unsupervised contact with children under age 16 while on probation.
