Aiken County detention center installs video visitation

Visitors will be able to have video conversations with inmates from home

Aiken County has a new way to visit inmates.

On Feb. 1, the Aiken County Detention Center went exclusively to video visitation, where visitors are able to talk to inmates from anywhere equipped with a computer webcam and high speed internet access, according to a statement from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

The system came at no cost to Aiken County taxpayers, the statement said.

For those who don’t have access to a computer, visitors may conduct video visits in the lobby of the detention center at 435 Wire Road.

Visitors who use the at-home video visitation will be able to schedule and conduct their visit without driving to the detention center. Until May 31, charges are $5 for 20 minutes and $10 for 40 minutes, the statement said.
