Juvenile facing sex charges transferred to Columbia County Detention Center after turning 17

Leo Vassar Tanguay

A Grovetown juvenile charged with sex with underage girls turned 17 on Monday and was transferred from a juvenile facility to the Columbia County Detention Center.

Leo Vassar Tanguay had been arrested on June 21 and was held in the Regional Youth Detention Center after a judge refused to grant Tanguay a bond.

Tanguay was indicted on July 31 on four counts of child molestation, three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, and one count each of aggravated child molestation and aggravated sodomy.

He is accused of having sexual relations with a girl under the age of 16 on two separate occasions in June and with a girl, 14 or 15 at the time, on two separate occasions between September 2012 and July 1, 2013, according to the indictment.

Tanguay is also accused of having three lewd photos of one of the girls, according to the indictment.

Tanguay’s attorney, Danny Durham, filed a motion to transfer the case to Columbia County Juvenile Court, but no ruling has been made on the motion, according to court records.
