A man who jumped off Interstate 20’s Walton Way Extension overpass Thursday night was unconscious and not breathing just before being transported to a hospital.
The coroner's office said this morning that he has died.
Richmond County deputies found the man, whose identity had not been released late Thursday, after he plunged about 40 feet and landed in an eastbound lane of the Bobby Jones Expressway on-ramp to I-20, Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Lewis Blanchard said.
The man leapt from the fenced bridge after having a conversation with his roommates, but no further explanation was immediately available, Blanchard said.
A deputy tried to revive the man by giving him CPR, but he wasn’t breathing as emergency personnel took him by ambulance to Georgia Regents Medical Center, Blanchard said.
