An Augusta man has been charged with four felony counts of entering an auto after tips from the public led to his arrest.
James Edmond Griffin, 52, was booked into the Richmond County jail Wednesday, accused of breaking into vehicles parked at Complete Residential, 3307 Commerce Drive, in late June, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Griffin is charged with stealing four large truck batteries from vehicles parked at the Augusta business.
Surveillance cameras at the business captured a man matching Griffin’s description on the night of the crime.
After the images were circulated by the media, investigators received numerous tips from the public that identified Griffin and his vehicle.
The truck batteries were valued collectively at about $1,000.
Griffin remained at the jail Thursday. His bond is set at $18,400.
