The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect who stole $5,650 worth of jewelry from an Augusta home Saturday.
Police responded to an activated house alarm on the 2700 block of Downing Street around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, an incident report said.
Deputies found both the inside garage door and front door wide open. The bedroom appeared to have been ransacked, with items thrown around the room and dresser drawers pulled open, the report said.
Among the stolen items were a $4,000 diamond-encrusted 14-karat gold watch and a $1,000 set of 14-karat gold diamond stud earrings.
Elizabeth Jackson, 73, told authorities that she had only been gone an hour and that the stolen items were on her dresser before she left.
The burglary is believed to have taken place between 1:30 p.m. and 2:28 p.m. Saturday.
