Riverwalk Augusta attack victim in fair condition

A 27-year-old man attacked on Riverwalk Augusta earlier this month is now in fair condition, according to a Georgia Regents Medical Center spokeswoman.

Wesley Spires, of Edgefield, S.C., and his date, 25-year-old Ashley Solesbee, of North Augusta, were attacked about 11 p.m. May 3 while sitting on a bench at the riverwalk.

Spires was taken to the hospital in critical condition and put in an induced coma. Solesbee was released a few days after the assault. Both had facial factures and head wounds. Spires also suffered a skull facture and broken hand.

Hospital spokeswoman LaTina Emerson confirmed Thursday that Spires is listed in fair condition, which means that a patient has stable vital signs, is “conscious and uncomfortable” and will have “minor complications,” she said.

Richmond County authorities arrested two men, Kevin D. Richardson and Robey E. Moses, both 21, in connection with the attack and charged both with two counts aggravated assault and two counts robbery by force.
