Augusta man faces drug charges

A 40-year-old man is facing drug charges after police said they discovered methamphetamine and cooking tools in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Calvin Chew, deputies stopped John Richard Wiggins Jr.’s vehicle in the 1700 block of Lawrence Road in Hephzibah around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Chew said deputies discovered 0.5 grams of meth packaged in clear plastic bags and items used to cook the drug, including portable cooking pots, spoons and used syringes.

Wiggins was booked into the Richmond County jail on charges of driving on a suspended or revoked license, manufacturing methamphetamine and trafficking methamphetamine.
