Man sentenced for beating ex-girlfriend with bat

An Augusta man who beat his former girlfriend with a baseball bat was sentenced to seven years in prison Monday.

Evans C. Tutt II, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and battery for the Aug. 11 attack. Richmond County Superior Court Judge Michael N. Annis also imposed a 14-year probation sentence that Tutt will serve after his incarceration.

Tutt was punching the woman when her children came to her aid. Tutt punched her daughter and grabbed a bat from her teenage son, which he used to further harm the woman.
