A Hephzibah man is in jail after police said he and a woman attempted to rob the GNC on the 500 block of Bobby Jones Expressway on Tuesday night.

Brendan Allen Gray Jr., 23, was taken into custody Wednesday after he attempted to flee from investigators into the woods behind his residence on Hemstead Court.

He faces charges of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana.

Police continue to search for his accomplice.

Police were initially called to GNC around 9 p.m. Tuesday after two people with machine guns attempted to rob the store, according to authorities. Police and members of the fire department searched the shopping center roof and attic, where they were believed to be hiding. They didn’t find anyone.
