Employee charged with assaulting manager who was firing him

A gas station employee in North Augusta was arrested and charged with assaulting his manager, who was firing him over missing money from the cash register, police said.

Mario Jermaine Davis, 32, of Beech Island, was charged with third-degree assault and battery on Jan. 10, according to a North Augusta Public Safety incident report.

Two store employees at Greg’s Gas Plus at 10258 Atomic Road took Davis to the manager’s office to fire him after a December audit revealed $2,100 missing from various beer, grocery, cigarette and deli sales, according to the report.

One of the women told police that while they were in the office, Davis grabbed her arm and shoved her into a counter.

When officers responded, Davis ran out the gas station door and locked himself in a car in the parking lot. After an officer’s repeated requests to open the door, Davis complied.

He was arrested and taken to North Augusta Public Safety Headquarters.
