Man selling items reports armed robbery

A man selling items from a roadside booth was robbed of $200 at gunpoint by a man who fired a shot at him, according to a police report.

About 2:15 p.m. Monday, Donald Evans, of Augusta, told police he was selling items from a booth at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 15th Street when a stranger inquired about getting Nike shoes and a purse.

The robber, wearing jeans and a dark jacket, then pointed a semiautomatic handgun at Evans and demanded money.

Evans said he laid $200 on the table and fled toward his Chevrolet Suburban, according to the report from Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

As he was running to the vehicle, he said, the robber shot a hole in it and ran to a green car parked on Olive Road.
