Columbia County women accused of attacking husbands with hammers

It was hammer time Friday in Columbia County, where two men said their wives tried to attack them with hammers.

Donny Torrance, 39, of Martinez, told authorities he locked himself and their 11-month-old baby inside the master bathroom after an argument with his wife, Tuere Dawn Jackson, who he said swung at him.

The man said his wife beat on the bedroom door with what he thought was a hammer, according to a Columbia County sheriff’s report. He said Jackson destroyed items in the bedroom and tried to get into the bathroom before deputies arrived.

Deputies found Torrance locked in the bathroom because of damage to the door lock.

Jackson was charged with simple assault-family violence and two counts of obstruction of police officers. She was released from the Columbia County Detention Center on Friday after posting $4,800 bond, according to jailers.

In another incident, an Evans man told deputies Friday afternoon that his wife came at him with a hammer and a knife during an argument over his infidelity.

The 31-year-old man said the argument began after his wife found calls to another woman on his cellphone.

He said he pushed her away when she got close with the weapons.

Deputies did not charge anyone in the incident because they could not determine the primary aggressor.
