Man beaten with stick, robbed outside church

A 51-year-old man was hit in the face and arms with a stick and robbed after being asked to borrow a lighter, a Richmond County Sheriff’s report said.

Around 3 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the 1200 block of Greene Street in reference to a robbery.

The man told deputies he was approached in the Greene Street Presbyterian Chruch parking lot by three men. One of the men asked him for a light and when he reached into his pocket to pull out the lighter, he was struck in the face with a stick, the report said.

As be was being beaten with the stick, one of the men stole two phones, two IDs, $87, and a gold bracelet of off him, the victim said.
