Two more Augusta Youth Development Campus officers were fired as a result of staff policy violations.
In a news release sent out Wednesday night, Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner Gale Buckner said the terminations resulted from ongoing investigations at the facility.
Corrections officer Kenneth Payton was terminated for “misconduct policy violations for allegedly initiating a physical altercation with a resident under the care and custody of the Department.”
In a separate investigation, corrections officer Dondale Stroman was let go “based on misconduct policy violations for alleged improper use of physical intervention techniques.”
Buckner’s statement also clarified that while corrections officer Tracy Banks has made public statements that he resigned, he has not submitted a written resignation to the department. Banks, who had been suspended with pay for a “sexual misconduct policy violation involving a resident,” remains suspended with pay as his official status with the agency, the statement said.
Wednesday’s terminations follow daylong interviews conducted Tuesday by a team of 20 agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation working with investigators from the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Officials were seeking information on alleged sexual misconduct, instances of contraband smuggled into the facility and the November beating death of 19-year-old Jade Holder.
