Police say Augusta woman fatally stabbed boyfriend

A woman is in Richmond County jail on a murder charge after police say she stabbed her boyfriend Saturday.

Catherine Denise Gibson, 26, is accused of stabbing Albert Dawayne Hawkins, 40, at the Gibson family home in the 2200 block of Darlington Drive, according to an e-mail from Lt. Blaise Dresser.

The couple has a 2-year-old child who was home at the time, and there was also a 14-year-old relative present, Lt. Robbie Silas said.

The motive was not immediately clear, but Silas said the couple had been arguing.

Deputies were called to the home around 12:30 a.m. and found Hawkins with at least one stab wound on his torso, Dresser said. Hawkins was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Gibson is charged with murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

This is the second homicide of the year in Richmond County.
