North Augusta mom arrested after police altercation

NORTH AUGUSTA — Police say an argument turned physical Monday morning when a woman hit her husband with an umbrella and a tennis racket.

The fight broke out about 6 a.m. on the 300 block of Mill Branch Way, but a responding officer said he saw no injuries to the victim.

Two hours later, a neighbor called to report that the suspect, Cherry Stratton, 43, was standing behind her husband’s car with their 2-year-old son, preventing him from leaving the driveway, a North Augusta Public Safety report states.

A report says she acted like she was going to throw the child in front of a passing car. Officers said they struggled to put Stratton in handcuffs and that she kicked an officer in the chest as they arrested her on charges of criminal domestic violence and disobeying a lawful order.
