Man runs from police, faces drug charges

A man who thought he had warrants against him took off running Wednesday when he spotted a deputy's cruiser pulling into Murphy Crossing Apartments.

The Richmond County deputy was there to investigate a drug complaint when he said he saw Javaris Jackson, 21, run out of building G.

Jackson was caught and seated in the deputy's cruiser, where the deputy said he smelled a strong odor of marijuana.

Jackson was searched and 11.9 grams of marijuana were found in Jackson's pocket, along with two pieces of crack cocaine, a report said.

Jackson said he ran because of his warrants, but a computer check revealed he had no outstanding warrants, a report states.

Jackson was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer and for possession of the drugs.
