Murder charge filed in Thursday shooting

James Thurmond Daughtie was charged with murder and aggravated assault Friday after ballistics tests confirmed he fired the shot that killed Dontrell Kyler at Cherry Tree Crossing on Thursday morning, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Kyler, 25, who was shot several times, was a passenger in a car with another man, 32-year-old Ozzie Brian Jones, who was wounded.

Kyler's family and friends said Friday they will hold a candlelight vigil at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Big Oak Park on Wheeler Road.
