U.S. Department of Defense delays furlough notices at least two weeks

Civilians working for the U.S. Department of Defense have at least two more weeks before furlough notices will be handed down.

The Pentagon announced the delay this week to allow the department more time to analyze the impact of widespread federal spending cuts on its resources, according to a news release.

The cuts, known as sequestration, went into effect March 1. The Pentagon previously announced that each civilian employee could face up to 22 furlough days.
