Crums on Central closing May 31

After serving the Summerville neighborhood for nearly six years, Crums on Central will close at the end of this month.

Owner Andrew Crumrine made the decision this week to close the restaurant at 1855 Central Ave. on May 31 to spend more time with his family.

“I’ve got a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old, and I work nights and weekends,” he said. “Where you would want to be? It’s completely bittersweet because I love my customers and I love what I’m doing down here, but there just comes a time in life, where you’ve got to say, ‘Hey, the real responsible and mature thing to do is take care of your family.’”

Crums, which has a staff of about 20 employees, opened in the summer of 2008. Crumrine said he will also stop operating a food truck that’s affiliated with the restaurant.

On Thursday, Crumrine announced the restaurant’s closure to more than 1,000 followers on Facebook.

Crumrine owns the Central Avenue building and said he’s already received calls from parties inquiring about opening another restaurant in the spot.

“I’ve got a couple of people that are interested in picking it up immediately,” he said. “I would like to see them put their own twist on it. It all remains to be seen.”
