A discount shoe store in Harrisburg will reopen after damage from the February ice storm forced the owners to shut down.
Wayne and Dotty McGaha are planning to reopen Goody Two Shoes, at the corner of Broad Street and Milledge Road, on April 3.
The business closed for seven weeks, undergoing repairs from water damage when the roof partially collapsed under the weight of ice.
The entire inventory of 5,000 pairs of shoes in the showroom was ruined, Dotty McGaha said.
McGaha said her insurance covered most of the nearly $150,000 in damage costs, which included replacing carpet, refinishing walls, pressure-washing shelves and restocking inventory.
“Even the cash registers, computers – everything was ruined,” she said. “We had new countertops put in. Everything is fresh and brand new.”
Goody Two Shoes has been on the Harrisburg corner for 19 years and in the neighborhood for nearly three decades.
McGaha, whose business also sustained damage at its current spot from a previous roof leak, considered moving to a new location but decided to remain put after she prayed with her husband.
“We didn’t get any new instruction to do anything different, so we’re just going to continue to serve this community,” she said. “Our call was to serve this community.”
An official grand reopening is planned after Masters Week.
