Developers of a future Wal-Mart-anchored development in North Augusta have named additional tenants to fill an adjacent strip center.
Camino Real Mexican Restaurant, Firehouse Subs, State Farm Insurance, Great Clips as well as an unnamed nail salon and a Chinese restaurant and buffet have signed leases at the new retail development on Edgefield Road near Interstate 20, Neil Meyers, the owner of Atlanta-based Meyers Brothers Properties LLC, announced Monday.
Construction broke ground on the 52-acre Sweetwater Square shopping center in late October.
There also are five commercial out-parcels fronting the development that are for sale “to businesses, such as free-standing restaurants and banks,” Meyers said.
The adjoining retail center will consist of about 36,000-square-feet of shop space occupied by between 15 to 20 tenants, said Matt Sasser, also with Meyers Brothers Properties.
Sasser said he expects both the 158,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter and commercial center to be complete before Thanksgiving 2014. Wal-Mart expects the store to open in early 2015.
The Wal-Mart Supercenter will serve the northern portion of North Augusta, which already has another Supercenter on Knox Avenue. When asked why another Wal-Mart was needed in that area, company spokesperson Amanda Henneberg said, “The new store will provide more convenience to shoppers.”
The new Wal-Mart will employ about 300 associates and will be slightly smaller than the traditional 182,000-square-foot store. While it won’t have a fuel center, the store will contain all other typical departments seen inside a Supercenter, Henneberg said.
The project is a joint venture by Meyers Brothers Properties and Fletcher Bright Co. based in Chattanooga, Tenn.
