A local coffee roaster cut the ceremonial ribbon Tuesday on a new coffee and espresso bar on Central Avenue.
Buona Caffe Artisan Roasted Coffee, 1858 Central Ave., covers 1,550 square feet, space for coffee bean production and seating for about 38 customers, in addition to a separate room available for a meeting space.
When John and Pat Curry began roasting coffee in a smaller shop across the street three years ago, customers often suggested they open a coffee shop. But with only about 550 square feet, they just didn’t have the space, he said.
“We grind and brew the coffee by the cup when you come in, and we’re the only people in Augusta to do that,” Curry said.
Organic loose-leaf teas are on the menu, in addition to organic baked treats such as blueberry carrot muffins and vegetable quiche by Washington, Ga., baker Southern Scratch.
Buona Caffe supplies many local restaurants and offers bags of coffee for individual purchase.
