Augusta Economic Development Authority hires project manager

Scott J. Poag

The Augusta Economic Development Authority has hired a new project manager.

Scott J. Poag, who most recently worked for the Pitt County Development Commission in Greenville, N.C., will begin his new post on Aug. 12.

Poag’s job will be working with state economic development project managers, utility project managers and national site selection consultants to bring projects to Augusta.

For three years, the Morehead City, N.C., native worked with economic development projects in Pitt County. He also managed the Technology Enterprise Center of Eastern North Carolina, a technology-based incubator that worked with the East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine.

“Scott has the experience and background in economic development that we were looking for in a new project manager,” said Walter Sprouse, the authority’s executive director. “Scott recognizes the tremendous competition in the economic development arena, and his background in bioscience, technology transfer and traditional manufacturing is a plus.”

Robbie Bennett, who was named director of the Columbia County Development Authority in March, formerly served as the authority’s project manager.
