It’s one thing to dish out advice, but quite another to take your own.
Augusta advertising agency and creative firm Wier/Stewart received a silver recognition at the 2012 American Advertising Federation ADDY Awards for their work rebranding themselves.
“We kind of took our own medicine,” said Daniel Stewart, a partner and studio director.
Rebranding is something Wier/Stewart routinely recommends to clients when the business has evolved beyond its existing image or focus. They found that their firm needed a more sophisticated feel and developed the Wier/Stewart brand.
“When you’re coming up with things, there’s these thoughts like, is that stupid?” said Alex Wier, a partner and creative director. “Well, apparently it’s not.”
Taking a look in the mirror was daunting, the partners said, and to receive public validation means a lot.
“It kind of blew our minds,” Stewart said.
Marc Wilson, the director of marketing for First Bank of Georgia and president of the Augusta branch of the American Advertising Federation, said recognition at the national level is good for not only Wier/Stewart but for the entire Augusta advertising community.
“I can’t even remember the last time someone from our area made it to the national level, much less won an award,” he said.
In order to get to the national level, Wier/Stewart had to win gold medal recognition at both the local and regional level. ADDY entries are rated on a scale of one to 100 by members of the creative and advertising communities, and high-scoring entries are awarded gold or silver recognition.
More than just a glass trophy, Wier/Stewart is listed on the national Silver ADDY list for members of the creative community across the world to notice.
“To have our firm on that list is pretty cool,” Stewart said.
