Alan English, the vice president of Audience at The Augusta Chronicle, has been named publisher of the Log Cabin Democrat, a Morris Publishing Group property in Conway, Ark.
English, a 25-year veteran of the media industry, was responsible for product development, marketing, new media and news at The Chronicle. He joined The Chronicle in 2009 as executive editor after serving as a top editor at The Times, in Shreveport, La.
“I’m blessed to have been part of a team constantly producing great journalism with impact,” English said. “Together we’ve experimented and made changes that have taken Morris and The Chronicle into a leading position in the industry with its digital products and concepts.”
English starts his new job Nov. 1 at the Log Cabin Democrat (thecabin.net) newspaper in Conway, which is 30 minutes north of Little Rock.
“We are so happy for Alan,” said William S. Morris IV, the chief executive officer of Morris Publishing LLC. “He’s done a marvelous job at The Chronicle laying the groundwork for our audience operations and with his help, we’ll be actively seeking someone to fill this important role.”
“As publisher, Alan will be able to migrate many of the ‘best-of-breed’ innovations he has brought to our paper and community,” said Dana Atkins, the president of TAC Media and The Augusta Chronicle. “Alan will contribute to our publishing group in a much larger way as he leads the team in Conway to new levels of innovation.”
English recently was re-elected to the Associated Press Media Editors board of directors. He graduated with a bachelor of fine arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology and attended the University of Tennessee.
“Between beating (Mayor) Deke (Copenhaver) in the Augusta Ironman to seeing the sunset at Augusta National, I’ve learned so much being here and love this community.” English said. “I’ll miss everyone greatly as I take this next step.”
