LongHorn Steakhouse to open in Aiken by fall

A LongHorn Steakhouse is expected to open by fall on Whiskey Road in Aiken.

Construction started Monday on the restaurant at 2480 Whiskey Road, in front of Lowe’s, LongHorn spokeswoman Erica Jaeger said.

The 6,300-square-foot restaurant is on a 1.5-acre parcel and will accommodate 240 diners, she said.

Between 80 and 100 employees will be hired, said Jaeger, adding that hiring typically begins six weeks before a restaurant’s opening.

Aiken made an attractive location for the steakhouse, partly because of the number of retailers, Jaeger said.

“Aiken is a growing community with a diverse economy,” she said. “Aiken also benefits from numerous yearly events, which provide additional draw to the community, including the Masters golf tournament in Augusta and many equestrian events.”

The project, including land acquisition and construction, is expected to cost about $3 million, Jaeger said.

The chain opened in 1981 as LongHorn Steaks in Atlanta and has since expanded to more than 435 restaurants across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

The Augusta area’s only other LongHorn Steakhouse is on Washington Road in Martinez.
