Last week’s photo showed the front end of the new Dodge Avenger, a midsize sedan. For more information on the car and a better photograph, see this week’s road test.
Chosen randomly from the correct entries was the name Wayne Wilke, of Evans, who wrote: “The Avenger shares its chassis, engines and most other parts with the Chrysler 200.”
He wins a gift from The Augusta Chronicle.
In addition to the readers who recognized the Avenger, a number of readers guessed the photo showed the larger Dodge Charter sedan. Moreover, several thought it was the previous generation of the Chevrolet Impala because of the similar headlight lens.
Other readers correctly identifying the vehicle were:
AUGUSTA: Reuben Ervin, who said he knows cars and especially recognized the grille.
CANTON, GA.: David Anderson wrote:
“This is the vehicle that my daughter and son-in-law chose to replace their ailing Pontiac G6 with on their return from Las Vegas in 2011 where they had a Dodge Charger as a rental. They actually totaled that Charger in a run-in with a very large deer during a side trip to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park.
“Fortunately everyone was OK (well, not too certain about that deer) and the impression of the Charger was still positive enough that they considered it as a replacement for their G6.
“Luckily for their pocketbook and wallets, they could not quite stretch their budget to accommodate the Charger and so opted for the Avenger instead. This car has plenty of room for their family of three, and equipped with the Pentastar V-6, it also has plenty of power and opportunities for speeding tickets.
“The opportunities for tickets is further enhanced by the fact that the color of theirs is Please-Officer-Pull-Me-Over-Red.
“The teaser shot shows the Blacktop Edition appearance package for the in-vogue blacked-out look. This look is not my cup of tea, but I must admit that this rendition looks pretty darn aggressive and fast.
Alas though, this is strictly an appearance package that does nothing for performance.
“As a side note, my daughter recently had another run-in with a deer in her Avenger. It did damage the car, but fortunately it was nowhere near the severity of that earlier impact that literally ripped the left front fender off of that Charger.
“The car has been repaired with no lingering after-effects, and they are still quite happy with it as they pack it, a box truck and their Chevrolet Avalanche with all of their worldly possessions in a move across the country from Georgia to California.
“In fact, if all goes according to plan, by the time this appears in print, they should be somewhere in Missouri as they take a middle of the country scenic route.
“Some of my co-workers have suggested I follow along with them, film the move and then post that video as a revival of the National Lampoon Vacation series of movies!”
EDGEFIELD, S.C.: Jeff Bryan said he has had a number of Dodges, especially Dakota pickups: “These are good cars. I had one long ago and it was a great car.”
