Discounts on fitness club memberships

As we ring in the new year, many people have set a New Year’s resolution to lose weight and get in shape.

With discounts at local fitness clubs, it’s possible to achieve this goal without emptying your bank account.

GOLD’S GYM: Membership is $10 per month, month-to-month with no enrollment fee.

In January, Gold’s Gym is offering a 14-day, money-back guarantee at all four locations, said marketing director Allen Childs.

FAMILY Y: Throughout January, Family Y locations are allowing new members with no joiner’s fee.

The joiner’s fee is usually $75 to $100, depending on the type of membership. Family Y does not require contracts. Financial assistance is available to those in need.

“Typically, we do a half-price joiner’s fee. This year, we decided because of the economy to give people extra help to be able to join,” said Millie Schumacher, the community relations director at Family Y.

THE SALVATION ARMY’S KROC CENTER: Until Jan. 31, the Kroc Center is offering several new member specials. All memberships sold in January will include:

• A gift

• Discounted three- or 12-month membership options

• An initial fitness evaluation and personaltraining session

• A follow-up fitness evaluation

• A nutritional guidance counseling session

The three-month membership package is being offered at $75 for an individual standard membership or $125 for a standard family membership. The $60 registration fee will be waived.

The one-year membership special includes a 13th month and no registration fee, equaling a total savings of $126.

For more information, contact Beth Bargeron, the membership and guest services coordinator, at (706) 922-0170.

ANYTIME FITNESS: Try Anytime Fitness with a 30-day membership for $19. The offer is available at all three locations. For more details, call the Columbia Road location at (706) 364-2418.

SPINNING GALLERY: Get unlimited membership for six days a week, including all fitness classes, for $30 a month. No contracts are required, said owner Ivan Trinidad. The offer is available at both locations indefinitely.

Also, the first class for any class at Spinning Gallery is free.

Sunday’s issue of The Augusta Chronicle includes a coupon to save $2 off one Tide detergent. It can be found in the P&G Brand Saver insert and expires Jan. 31.
