Shopgirl: A new accessory store; a helpful app; and open house at Sacred Heart

Charming Charlie, an accessory store organized by every color in the rainbow, has come to Augusta Mall.

Walking into Charming Charlie is a visual treat, with pockets of the store devoted to coral, indigo, gunmetal gray, yellow and so on.

It’s a novel idea to arrange a store like this, since we usually buy accessories (especially costume jewelry) by color rather than size or type.

You can come into this store looking for that perfect touch to an outfit, and
there will be something to help.

The price point is a little higher than a Forever 21 or Target, but the pieces tend to be sturdy enough to not leave a green ring around your wrist or fall apart after one wear.

The new store is on the lower level of the mall, next to McAlister’s Deli and below Chico’s.

Flipboard is an app that has been around since 2010, originally designed for the iPad to collect all the things we look at in one place. So whether it’s your Twitter feed, a slideshow of seasonal vegetable recipes from Bon Appetit, or breaking news headlines, Flipboard gathers those things for you in one very attractive place.

It was founded by a former Apple engineer and a tech executive, and its availability has grown to Android and iPhones. The app is free, and it’s a fun way to spice up your screen time.

Sacred Heart Cultural Center’s annual Holiday Open House will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 15, featuring a free coffee bar by Buona Caffe, book signings by two local authors and a display of items they think will be great for this holiday season.

The event is free, but coffee by the bag and items in the gift shop can be purchased. The annual guild bake sale will feature homemade treats, and Priscilla Oxley Ruckno of Prissy’s of Vidalia will sell her gourmet Vidalia onion products. She will have a cooking demonstration at 1 p.m., and tickets to that are $5.
