Shopgirl: Fleet Feet, fall fashion and Thanksgiving dinner

Have you checked out the new location of Fleet Feet Sports? The running gear store has moved from North Augusta to the corner of Furys Ferry and River Watch Parkway, a prime location in the Village at Furys Ferry shopping center.

Fleet Feet carries everything a runner might need, and its staff is trained to find out what shoes will best suit your feet. This franchise location is owned by Michael and Jen McCauley and has been open in the area for three years. The owners said the move had been in process for a while, and the new space is 2,900 square feet.

Black and blue, burgundy, reptile print and leather will be the pillars of this fall’s fashion, according to a range of experts.

I’m seeing burgundy used for things we don’t always see, like shoes and jewelry. The black and blue combination is stunning, especially when the blue is that deep cobalt that has become more popular over the past year.

And although we always see a surge of leather as the temperature drops, it’s not just for jackets.

There are even some textile treatments that make a soft wool give off a leather-like look that adds some edge.

Now would be a great time to make plans to attend Aiken’s One Table traditional community Thanksgiving meal.

If you haven’t heard about it, One Table is one of Aiken’s neatest traditions. The entire town is invited to remember Thanksgiving together, in The Alley behind City Hall, and a complete Thanksgiving spread is free to the public.

This year, turkeys have been donated but donations are being accepted to cover other expenses, and volunteers are needed.

One Table is a great way to keep the meaning of the holiday at the forefront while pulling together the entire community. Go to for more information.
