U.S. Congressman Paul Broun announced today that he intends to seek re-election for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District.
Broun’s district once included much of the Augusta area, but redrawn lines eliminated large chunks of that territory.
“I knew that Georgia’s dramatic population growth would require the (Georgia) General Assembly to create an additional congressional district and that the boundaries of the 10th District would change,” Broun, a Republican, said in a press release. “While I very much regret losing some of the areas of the district, I am pleased to see that it will retain a portion of the CSRA, University of Georgia, the Lake Oconee region, and other vibrant communities that I have been privileged to serve.”
Broun is up for re-election next year.
