Columbia County STAR to be named

Columbia County’s STAR student will be named from among all the county high school’s STARS at a reception today.

The ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Harlem Women’s Club will recognize seven STAR students and their teachers. STAR students are those who record the highest SAT score at their school from one testing session, and who also are in the top 10 percent of their class.

Each STAR student then chooses an educator as STAR teacher who he or she has found to be instrumental in his or her success.

The Columbia County STAR student will be chosen from among Columbia County’s five public high schools and two of its three private schools according to the highest SAT score.

This year’s competitors are:

• Erick Sostre, Augusta Christian Schools; STAR teacher Mike Giddens

• Drew Chamberlain, Augusta Preparatory Day School; STAR teacher Tim Shafer

• William Snider, Evans High School; STAR teacher is Pam Sellars

• Cameron Gallahue, Greenbrier High School; STAR teacher is Michael Katterjohn

• Megan Murphy, Grovetown High School; STAR teacher Jeremy Medlin

• Benjamin Morgan, Harlem High School; STAR teacher is Stephanie Arrington

• Emma Blume, Lakeside High School; STAR teacher Charlotte Smith.
