Richmond school board to review larger classes

At its monthly board meeting Tuesday, the Richmond County Board of Education will take a final vote on a waiver to increase class sizes by three students above state guidelines for the 2012-13 school year.

The waiver was passed by the instruction committee last week, with Barbara Pulliam and Venus Cain as the only two out of seven committee members in dissent.

Acting Superintendent James Whitson said the increase was necessary to avoid layoffs next year because of state funding cuts.

Also on the agenda is a resolution to certify the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax referendum election results, architectural conversation for SPLOST IV projects and recognition of the academic decathlon team.
