A teenager is in custody after an early-morning shooting left one man dead and another wounded at a home on Windsor Spring Road.

Investigators were called around 2 a.m. Thursday to Lot 105 at Windsor Court mobile home park, where they found 38-year-old Javares Alston dead with gunshot wounds, Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser said.

Danielle Willingham, 38, had been shot in the leg.

Alston’s body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Augusta for an autopsy. Willingham was taken to a hospital with his wounds.

Investigators said Dequan Holmes, 17, was soon identified as a suspect and found at his home on Drew Lane in Hephzibah.

He has been booked into the Richmond County jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a handgun during the commission of a crime.

Both victims, who lived at the residence on Windsor Spring Road, are originally from the Columbia area and had recently moved to Augusta.

Dresser said investigators have a suspicion on a motive but did not say what it is.

This was Richmond County’s 16th homicide of the year.
