Authorities seek suspects in vending machine thefts in Columbia, Richmond counties

Authorities are looking for two men they say recently broke into vending machines outside self-serve businesses in Columbia and Richmond counties.

The owner of the Dollar Wash at 3515 Old Petersburg Road in Martinez said that just before midnight May 28 someone broke into a vending machine outside the car wash.

Video surveillance footage showed two men arriving in a red and white Ford truck. The driver, a white man wearing blue jeans and a multi-colored shirt, and the passenger, a black man in blue shorts and a white shirt, got out.

The driver tampered with a vending machine until it opened. He threw several items into the truck and drove away, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The pair are suspected in a similar theft May 29 at the Washing Well Coin Laundry at 4286 Windsor Spring Road in Augusta.

Anyone with information about the men’s identities or whereabouts should call the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 541-2800.
