5 arrested in series of burglaries at Augusta business

Five people were arrested Monday in connection with a series of burglaries at Tomberlin Automotive Group during the past week. More arrests were made Tuesday.

Richmond County sheriff’s Investigator Sean Cochran said the business at 1831 Old Savannah Road was burglarized at least three times between April 10 and Sunday. In each of the incidents, ATVs and scooters were stolen. Other scooters and ATVs were driven around the parking lot, causing damage and then wrecked on the property, Cochran said.

Five ATVs, six scooters and one UTV – totaling more than $12,000 – were reported stolen.

Investigators found three of the stolen items Monday in Cherry Tree Crossing public housing complex. Another was abandoned nearby.

Dwayne Mutombo, 20; Byron Harris, 19; and a 15-year-old were charged with burglary. Edward Maloyd, 24, and Roderica Williams, 39, were charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

The names of those arrested Tuesday have not been released yet.
