Augusta shopper tries to pay with two fake $100 bills

A shopper tried to pay with two counterfeit $100 bills Friday at the Bi-Lo on Peach Orchard Road, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office report.

Assistant Manager Franklin Edward Peebles told deputies that a man had tried to pay him with two $100 bills that had the same serial number. Peebles told the man to go to customer service.

Customer service worker Kourtney Smith said the man gave her the bills. She marked across them with a counterfeit pen and discovered they were fake. When she told the suspect, he walked out of the store and drove south on Peach Orchard Road.

Smith said the man was driving a Chrysler Sebring.
