Man robbed of jewelry outside Augusta store

A man was robbed at gunpoint outside an Augusta store Monday, police said.

Bobby Lee Bell, 25, of Hephzibah, told deputies he went to the Food Mart at 503 East Boundary at 11:15 a.m. to purchase snacks when he noticed three men and a female sitting in a black Chevrolet Malibu with tinted windows, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office report.

Bell said that as he approached the front door of the store, two men got out of the passenger side of the car, and one of them pointed a silver handgun at him and told him to “give it up.” The second man went through Bell’s pockets and took his wallet.

The man with the gun then took Bell’s 14-karat gold large-link chain and cross, and a smaller version. Bell estimated the robbers got more than $3,000 in jewelry and cash from him.
