High Country Olive Oil is opening a second store.
The shop is expected to open by early next week in Le Pavilion shopping center at 110 Pleasant Home Road, said co-owner Craig Dougherty. It will be between Neapolitan Cupcakes and The Antique Market.
The 1,300-square-foot space will sell extra-virgin olive oils, flavored and unflavored from all over the world, and aged balsamic vinegars from the Modena region of Italy.
The store will also carry Belgian chocolates from La Bonbonniere, pasta and other items, he said.
Dougherty and his business partner, Bob Thrift, both of Charlotte, N.C., opened High Country Olive Oil at 113 Laurens St. SW in Aiken in June 2011.
Their chocolate supplier, Bebette Smith, the owner of La Bonbonniere on Furys Ferry Road, played an integral role in bringing them to the Augusta area, Dougherty said. They decided to open an Augusta store based on customer requests.
“We feel like Augusta is an exciting market. We have so many customers come say, ‘Why don’t you open in Augusta?’ We felt like it was the next sensible place,” Dougherty said.
The new store will initially have two employees. The Aiken shop has five.
The new store will also have a tasting bar for customers to sample products before purchasing them.
The owners plan to open more stores in areas around Augusta, Dougherty said.
“We’ll be looking at other locations, one at a time,” he said. “We don’t like to move too fast. We’re a small business, and we have to make sure all the locations work.”
