Augusta down 600 jobs from August

Augusta lost 600 jobs in September, according to Thursday’s Georgia Department of Labor data.

The department said there were 206,900 people with jobs in the metro area, down from 207,500 in August.

Sectors that cut jobs were retail, manufacturing, construction and hospitality, a combined loss of 1,400 positions.

Sectors that increased employment in September were local government and professional services, a gain of 800.

Comparing Augusta’s employment level with September 2010, it is lower by 1.5 percent, or 3,100 jobs. Most of that is because of declines in retail, 1,800 jobs.
