SUDDEN SNAG: Jason Kidd appeared headed to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday -- until Devean George's contract got in the way.

George was supposed to be among the players headed to New Jersey, but he blocked it by not wanting to give up his "early Bird rights," a provision earned by being in his second year and on his second contract with the Mavericks.

Kidd, who started his career in Dallas, was supposed to be the centerpiece of a deal that reportedly was to send George, emerging point guard Devin Harris, veteran Jerry Stackhouse and reserves DeSagana Diop and Maurice Ager to the Nets, with forward Malik Allen going from New Jersey to the Mavericks.

BULLS: Center Ben Wallace will miss tonight's game against the Miami Heat because of a death in his family.

In Charlotte, N.C., Jeff McInnis ' hook shot with 51.4 seconds left in overtime gave the Bobcats a victory over Atlanta on Wednesday night.

Emeka Okafor had 20 points and 22 rebounds for the Bobcats.

Joe Johnson scored 23 points to lead the Hawks.

Atlanta guard Josh Childress was sent home to undergo an MRI on his injured right knee. Childress traveled with the team to Charlotte, but returned to Atlanta when it was determined he wouldn't play.
