Siler waiting for offers

Former ASU star waived by Phoenix

Garret Siler is waiting by the phone.

The NBA center is trying to find a new home after getting waived Monday by the Phoenix Suns.

“I’m just sitting here letting my agent do his job,” Siler said Wednesday. “I told him to just talk to me when somebody gives me an offer.”

Siler, who is represented by Lance Young of Octagon Sports, said he’s received some interest from several NBA teams as well as a squad in Greece. Also, there’s a chance he could return to Shanghai, his former club, for a few months. The NBA remains his focus, though.

“With a compressed season, moves happen at the drop of a hat,” Siler said. “Right now, I’m just going to work out as much as I can.”

The 25-year-old Siler is still in Phoenix, where the Suns’ coaches and upper management were surprised at his release, his second NBA cut. Coach Alvin Gentry told him the decision came from owner Robert Sarver, who signed guard Michael Redd last week and then cut Siler, who is listed at 6-foot-11, 305 pounds, to keep the Suns at the league-minimum roster size of 13 players. NBA teams can keep as many as 15 on the roster.

Siler will earn $394,436 for the season – half of his second-year NBA minimum salary, according to Siler, who didn’t play in a game this year, averaged 2.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 21 games last season. When he was released, he was the lowest-paid member of the Suns.

“It was from ownership,” Siler said. “It had nothing to do with me or my progress.”

The former Augusta State All-American center plans to remain for now in Phoenix. He climbed a small mountain Tuesday, and he continues focusing on his professional career.

“It’s a business,” he said. “You can’t be upset about it.”
