Eric McClure won't be able to run this week at Darlington

Eric McClure will miss Friday night’s Nationwide Series race at Darlington Raceway because of injuries suffered in a crash at Talladega.

Team McClure Inc. said Wednesday that Jeff Green will replace McClure in the No. 14 Toyota.

McClure was injured late in Saturday’s race at Talladega when his car hit headfirst into the wall. He spent two nights in an Alabama hospital with a concussion and internal bruising, and was sent home Monday.

Green has 18 career Nationwide Series starts at Darlington, with one win and nine top-10 finishes.

RUNNING HOT: Radiators weren’t the only things running hot last weekend at the Talladega Superspeedway.

Danica Patrick knocked former Indy-car buddy Sam Hornish Jr. into the wall after Saturday’s Nationwide Series race.

The new rules included a smaller grille opening and smaller radiator to keep drivers from running nose-to-tail. Add that to the already anxious style of racing in three-wide and 10-deep packs of traffic with no margin for error, and it pushed a lot of people – including Patrick – to the brink.

Patrick’s green Chevrolet was pinched into the outside wall by Hornish as they came to the while flag. She was so upset she rear-ended him after the race, sending his Dodge crashing into the first turn wall.

After the race, Hornish said he had a flat tire and that caused his car to turn into Patrick. That same flat, Patrick said, is the reason her bump sent his car into the wall.

BIDING HIS TIME: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is perfectly happy biding his time in the NASCAR Nationwide series in 2012.

Stenhouse knows Roush Fenway Racing is invested in his future – one that looks stronger than ever after a stellar start to the season.

Stenhouse, the 2011 Nationwide points champion, told team owner Jack Roush in the off-season that another year in the series right below Sprint Cup would be the best thing for his long-term prospects.

It’s been the right plan so far. The 24-year-old Stenhouse is five points clear of Elliott Sadler.
