A 36-year-old woman was killed after being ejected from a vehicle in a wreck near the on-ramp to westbound Interstate 20 at the Grovetown exit, authorities said.
The driver of a Jeep Liberty was westbound on I-20 near the Lewiston Road overpass and lost control of the vehicle, which flipped, Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said in an e-mail.
Elizabeth Regina Deibele, of Grovetown, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins said.
William Miles Jr., 30, of Appling, was a passenger in the SUV and was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital for treatment, Morris said. Miles' injuries is not believed to be life-threatening, Morris said.
Heavy rain is considered a contributing factor, Morris said. The accident occurred about 5:45 p.m., and the on-ramp was closed for about two hours.
