Ill mother needs help with gifts for her three children

A mother in Jefferson County is suffering from cervical cancer and other health ailments and seeks help this year for a happier Christmas for her three daughters.

Last year, she lost a son in an auto accident, and this year she has her own health challenges.

"Both my legs were amputated in May," she writes, "and I suffer from diabetes and high blood pressure.

"I wish my children to be happy like other kids. I feel so tired, afraid and lonely. I'm praying for change. God, please help us."

The Augusta Chronicle Empty Stocking Fund has helped people such as this for 80 years. Last year, the charity raised more than $118,000 that helped children and families across the region.
