AIKEN --- Keeping hearts pumping and bodies moving is a goal that members of the Start! CSRA Heart Walk have seen fall to the wayside as technology creates a sedentary lifestyle for employees.
On Thursday, the executive team kicked off its 2011 goal for the American Heart Association of getting area residents to improve cardiovascular health by 20 percent by the year 2020.
The group also hopes moving the event to North Augusta's Greeneway will increase participation.
"When you wait until things happen, it's not the best or most efficient way to deal with it," said Dr. Weems Pennington III, who is with Carolina Cardiovascular Associates.
The group has a fundraising goal of $260,000 this year, in addition to adding Augusta residents to the walk.
"We really hope this opportunity brings these communities together," said Ed Presnell, of the SRP Federal Credit Union and a past chairperson. "It's a central location for everyone to be involved."
The 2011 walk will be held on March 5. Additional information on the walk and cardiovascular health can be found at heart.org.
