Richmond County will go alone on tattoo law

Richmond County will have to regulate tattoos all by itself.

Under Georgia law, each county must pass its own ordinance regulating tattoo salons. The Richmond County Board of Health had tentatively approved an ordinance last month but made the approval contingent on matching up the county's ordinance with one being considered by the Columbia County Board of Health so that the two are the same.

However, at the Richmond county board's monthly meeting Tuesday night, Chairman Elijah Lightfoot said board attorney Harry Revell was told by Columbia County's attorney that its board didn't want to work with Richmond County.

"They didn't give any reason," Lightfoot said; they just weren't interested.

Richmond County's ordinance will take effect Jan. 1.
