Aiken woman killed in mo-ped, car collision
A 39-year-old Aiken woman died after the mo-ped she was riding was struck from behind Friday night, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said.
Donna Zimmer was pronounced dead at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital about 1 a.m. Saturday, Carlton said.
Zimmer was traveling north on Banks Mill Road when she was struck from behind by a Lexus driven by Dillon Dennis, of Aiken, about 9:40 p.m.
Toxicology is pending. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office will be investigating the accident.
Man returns fire after being shot at Saturday
Richmond County police were called to River Glen Apartments early Saturday after a man reported that someone shot at him.
According to a report from the sheriff's office, the 22-year-old victim said a man driving a green Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a white front bumper fired six or seven shots at him from the car shortly after midnight.
The victim said he then fired six shots at the vehicle, hitting it behind the driver's door.
61-year-old robbed at gunpoint in Augusta
A 61-year-old Augusta man said he was getting into his truck at an apartment complex on Second Avenue when a man came up behind him about 9:30 p.m. Friday and displayed a handgun, according to a report from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
The robber held the gun to his face and said "give it up." He took $600 and a gold necklace and gold medallion valued at $400, the victim said.
The report describes the thief as black, 16 to 19 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds.
Man brags to officer about vandalizing car
A man reportedly bragged over the phone Friday afternoon that there was no way he would get caught for damaging a woman's vehicle.
The suspect, Joseph Smalley, thought he was talking to his victim, but it was actually a deputy she had called to investigate her broken gas cap and bent license plate, a report says.
The victim was standing with the deputy making the complaint when Smalley called, so she handed the phone over. Smalley said: "You cannot prove that I damaged your vehicle. The Sheriff's Office cannot do anything because they did not see me do it," a report states.
The victim plans to prosecute Smalley for criminal trespass.
Man punches deputy, charged with battery
A deputy used pepper spray Friday on a man who refused to be arrested and punched the deputy, according to a report.
The deputy was investigating a 911 hang-up on the 2700 block of Milledgeville Road when one of the suspects, Jabail Howard, refused to give his name, a report states.
The deputy followed Howard inside his sister's house and grabbed Howard by the wrist, prompting Howard to turn and punch the deputy, a report states.
Howard was taken to the county jail on charges of battery and felony obstruction of an officer, a report says.
